My husband was diagnosed with three different types of cancer followed shortly by my son in law who received a diagnosis of testicular cancer. Many years earlier, my mother in law passed away from throat cancer. My dear friends Lynn and Linda are breast cancer survivors.
This is my fifth year riding Pelotonia. I have been a volunteer since the first ride, working everything from rider registration and volunteer registration to the beer cart. I always felt it was a worthwhile cause, but living with MS, I felt I needed to put my efforts towards that first. My husband was always there to support me whether I was helping organize the MS Walk, or riding in the Pedal to the Point MS ride. He would attend committee planning meetings with me and help serve lunch to riders. Now I feel it is my turn to support him, so I will be riding the MS ride the first weekend in August, followed by Pelotonia, the next weekend.
This has become more than just a "worthwhile cause" for me, it has become a way to support my family and friends who have been touched by cancer as well as those I have met over the years as riders and volunteers for Pelotonia who know cancer only too well.
