|$0 My Goal: $500.00|
Over the past few years I have provided drop-off and pick-up support for my family that was riding, I have volunteered, and have been a virtual rider for Pelotonia. My personal goal for the new fundraising format is to complete an 18-mile ride by what would have been Pelotonia weekend. This will be my longest ride yet; I am new to the sport and just got a bike a few months ago.
In Jewish tradition the number 18 has a special meaning: "chai" which in English means "life." I chose this goal because Pelotonia has always struck me as a unique duality of memorial and celebration.
By supporting innovative cancer research, much of which would not be funded without Pelotonia, we are able to lay the groundwork for a better tomorrow. Throughout the ride weekend, which will be surely missed this year, many riders and supporters add names of loved ones to memorial walls and to the backs of their jerseys to ride to honor loved ones passed to cancer. The sheer number of names that appear remind us that cancer is not a discriminatory disease and that this important work must continue.
Pelotonia weekend is also a celebration of life. Underneath the music and party atmosphere that kicks off the weekend is the immense gratitude towards the researchers, the fundraisers, and the riders and volunteers. And the celebration of a community united towards a common goal. We know that together we are making a difference in the fight against cancer.
Please consider supporting my ride.
L’chaim! To life!
