I am committing to fundraising for Pelotonia for my dad. In February of 2017 he was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer and quickly admitted to the James. I spent weeks sleeping on a pull out couch next to his hospital bed. During this time we fought through chemo, brain surgery, and all of the unknowns. If it wasn't for the funds raised by Pelotonia each year the lead Oncologist along with the lead Neuro-Oncologist caring for my dad would not have been a part of our journey. Everything from the extra pillows for my extended stay and small cups of coffee to tie me over between treatment updates were offered. The extra time with doctors and the nurses offering that extra hug made the fight a little bit easier. None of that would have been possible without Pelotonia. On March 28th of 2017 my 51 year old father lost his fight. As much as I hate him being taken away so early, the one thing that I am so grateful for was the care we received at the James. This is my way to help give back, and to help the next family that is thrown into the position I was recently in myself.
