Apeman Strong* Peloton is in honor of our great friend and brother, Howard Natal. By all accounts Howie was a big dreamer and an even bigger over-achiever. Dreamed of going to a big school, graduated from The Ohio State and later DePaul for his MBA. He dreamed of playing D1 college ball and he caught for the Buckeyes. He dreamed of running his own business, he not only led SGM Precision but grew the business and employee base, recently expanding into a 120,000 sq. ft. facility. He dreamed of staying fit and went deep into strength training, deadlifting, benching and squatting ridiculous weight as he was pushing 50.
Howard lost his battle with Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), a type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow. For most, this disease can be kept in remission for years with proper treatment. Howie is not like most, and the standard course of treatment was not effective, which irreversibly compromised his immune system. He visited The James for some testing, was immediately admitted and after 2 months under their supervision, he never made it out. He kept strong until the very end fighting with every bone and muscle in his body. The James, was great, but they can do better and we should all expect more…
That’s why we ride. To do better for those who are surviving with CLL and other forms of cancer. We need to go from hoping for remission to completely obliterating cancer. Apeman Strong? Next to Lulu Lemon, Howie’s favorite T-Shirt. On the back of each shirt are inspiring phrases which is what he loved, the best, “Suffering Unleashes Greatness”. Howie suffered setbacks throughout most of his life and out of it came his greatness. A great friend, a great dad a great boss an all-around great guy.
Now it’s time for us to suffer just a little for a long ride to end cancer. Hopefully Howie's inspiration will unleash greatness within each of us. Support our ride and honor our great friend and brother.
